Hong-Tu Tsai

Mr. Hong-Tu Tsai is the Chairman of Cathay Financial Holdings (Cathay FHC). Under his leadership, Cathay FHC has grown into the largest Taiwanese financial group with total managed assets amounting US$400bn as of end 2021. The group includes leading players in life insurance, banking, P&C insurance, asset management, securities, and venture capital in Taiwan. Cathay FHC also has a presence in 12 markets in Asia and aims to become a leading financial institution in the region. Being the fiduciary to our clients, Cathay FHC’s mission is being the most trusted financial group by helping the clients plan for better financial life with technology innovation and convenient services.

Prior to being the Chairman of Cathay FHC, Mr. Tsai was also Chairman of Cathay Life Insurance from 1990 to 2017. In addition, Mr. Tsai was a member of the APEC Business Advisory Council representing Chinese Taipei from 2009 to 2016, a member of the Board of LOMA from 2000 to 2003, and the elected Chairman of the Chinese Taipei’s Life Insurance Association from 1998 to 2001.

Mr. Tsai highly regards the impact of sustainability created by the financial institution. Mr. Tsai has been recognized for his leadership and management with the Asian Corporate Director Recognition Award from Corporate Governance Asia for two consecutive years in 2020-2021, and with the Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards for the “Responsible Business Leadership” in 2022.

Mr. Tsai holds a bachelor degree from National Taiwan University of Taiwan in 1974 and Juris Doctor Degree from Southern Methodist University of USA in 1978. He passed the Washington, D.C. Bar in 1979. Mr. Tsai also received a Distinguished Alumni Award from SMU in 1998 and from National Taiwan University in 2010.
