Xiye Bastida

Co-Founder & Director, Re-Earth Initiative

Xiye Bastida is a 19 year old Mexican-Chilean climate activist and member of the indigenous Mexican Otomi–Toltec nation. Together with Greta Thunberg and other young climate activists, they mobilized 300,000 people in NYC and more than 7 million around the world to stike for climate justice on September 20, 2019. Xiye also serves on the administration committee of the Peoples Climate Movement. She is also a Co-Founder and Director of the Re-Earth Initiative and Youth Organizer for the Escazu Agreement Campaign.

Xiye wrote the opening chapter for All We Can Save. Truth, Courage and Solutions for the Climate Crisis, the Anthology edited by Ayana Elizabeth Johnson and Katherine Wilkinson. In October 2021, Xiye received the Vital Voices Award with US Poet Laureate, Amanda Gorman presented by Oprah Winfrey.
